Address: Zawoja 123 , 34-222 Zawoja
On May 7, 1825, Bishop of Tarnów Grzegorz Tomasz Ziegler consecrated the first church in Zawoja. It was a wooden building, a log structure, boarded outside with vertical formwork. The roof was covered with shingle. The church was oriented, i.e. the presbytery turned east. It was built on a cruciform plan with a transept, i.e. a cross nave and a wide, though quite short, nave. The presbytery with the width and length equal to today's was closed on three sides. Above the intersection of the nave and cross nave. The current parish church is in the place of the first church. It is located at an altitude of 536 meters above sea level. In 1888, at the expense of the Archduke of Żywiec, Albrecht Habsburg, who commissioned his court builder Karol Pietschka to carry out the project, work began and completed in 1888, the construction of a large church made of wood in the form of a cross began on the site of a small church. The works were completed in 1919. In the same year the church was consecrated. Its shape deviates from the stereotypical image of a wooden Polish church, referring to German and Swiss designs. Inside the temple there is a polychrome from 1930 made by artists from Krakow (Zygmunt Milli, Stanisław Milli and Marian Arczyński). A four-story tower of pole-frame construction is added from the west, gradually changing from a square to an octagon. It is covered by a pyramidal helmet. The interior of the church is covered with ceilings, whose construction is supported by load-bearing walls and cast-iron columns. Above the intersection of the naves there is an apparent dome. The temple's equipment is late baroque. The main altar contains paintings of the Immaculate Conception. The wooden pulpit is decorated with late baroque ornament. The stone Baroque baptismal font is covered with a wooden Rococo cover.
