The Classicist palace, designed by Archduke Albrecht by Karol Pietschka, was rebuilt several times. In the years 1893-1895 a new wing was created, covered with a glass roof, in which bedrooms and guest rooms were arranged. Another extension was made when the property of Żywiec was taken over by the deceased uncle Karol Stefan. Then a pavilion was added to extend the southern wing, in which the ballroom was located on the first floor, measuring 10.5x18.0 m, so-called mirror because it was filled with mirror panes. The last extension was made in 1911, adding a three-axis projection with two side balconies, crowned with a classic tympanum with the Habsburg coat of arms. The interior design was entrusted to Krakow artists: Tadeusz Stryjeński and Franciszek Mączyński. Archduke Karol Stefan was an art lover, thanks to him a collection of paintings by Polish and European painters was created in the castle. He worked for him, among others Wojciech Kossak. The silverware collection weighing about 500 kg was also famous in the castle and taken away by the Germans during the war. After the war, a palace was established in the palace that still operates there - the Complex of Wood and Forest Schools, a technical school occupying a leading position among the high schools of the Żywiec District. In the 1990s, the daughter of Archduke Karol Olbracht, duchess Maria Krystyna Altenburg, returned to the castle, for whom a flat was arranged in one of the wings of the former residence (in the place where the bowling alley was in the past). The duchess lived there until her death in 2012.
